We are active members of APSO (The Association of Personnel Service Organisation) and abide by their Code of Ethics. It is mandatory for all our consultants to achieve their APSO Compliance qualification, enabling us to maintain a high level of service. Our company also believes strongly in supporting the industries we serve and are thus active members of the Exporters Club, TRAVELBAGS and SKAL. Our staff has also served on many of these committees, whilst making every effort to promote the industries we recruit for. We understand the value of good employment practice and thus offer credit and criminal checks, qualification checks and industry related competency checks where possible. In addition to this, we also offer Thomas International Personality Profiles on request. Since 1984, we have been entrusted with confidential salary levels of the clearing and forwarding industry and published survey results every second year for the participating companies. Since 2003, we work in a partnership with P E Corporate Services, assisting with the marketing of this survey. Being the only recruitment company in our specialised industry to offer this, our surveys are sought after as an excellent tool for company Directors and HR Managers when benchmarking staff packages. We are represented in the UK by specialist agencies who are able to assist those going over to London as well as South Africans returning home. And, once you have that person, you need to be fairly certain that they will stay long enough to add value. A rapid staff turnover affects productivity and employee morale so ideally you should find and recruit individuals who are in it for the long haul and will commit to moving your organisation forward. Too often, organisations want to come across as trendy or cutting edge when they’re actually quite traditional or more conservative than their counterparts. That way, you both know what to expect from the working environment from day one. Many candidates think they know what the job requires and then they’re disappointed when there is an unexpected administrative portion or lots of telephone time as opposed to face-to-face interactions. Sharing expectations will help you identify the best candidate for the job and avoid disappointment (on both fronts) in the long run. If this is true of your organisation, it is well worth bringing it into the recruitment process. Let candidates know that their engagement is important to you and encourage them to feel enthusiastic about an organisation that will feel the same way about them, right from the start. And you’re meant to achieve this in one or two short recruitment interviews! It can also be a costly and time-consuming exercise to replace employees that have just joined your organisation. Recruit pro-actively and with the right strategy and you will lower these risks.
