Original welding shop to now integrate a machine shop with the welding operations.

Applied Welding Technology concentrates on specialised welding services, particularly in Stellite cladding and in rebuilding parts machined to high tolerances. We weld on a daily basis low alloy steels, cast iron, aluminium and stainless steels to a variety of standards such as required by large industry clients such as Eskom and Sasol and are experienced at meeting emergency repair requirements. A lot of our welding is performed using mechanised equipment and we are able to clad large items up to 12.5tons. We are also able to weld with a variety of techniques and have an extensive bank of qualified welding procedures. Heat treatment of the majority of welding is done with our own furnace. Our machine shop comprises a conventional shop with horizontal boring mills, a vertical borer and conventional lathes as well as a CNC shop that is equipped with 4 axis milling machines, lathes, spark eroder and a wire cutter. Metal Active Gas (MAG) welding, Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), Manual Metal Arc (MMA) and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) welding equipment is available on our premises. Wherever possible, the welding is semi-automated by a wide variety of manipulators and welding booms. We have a library of welding procedures suitable for ASME and EN ISO coded welding on most power station and pressure vessel steels. All of our weld repairs to a wide variety of metals are backed by extensive documentation (i.e. welding procedure specification, qualification and inspection). We offer heat treatment of the finished welding and semi-automatic welding of most cylindrical components. We are also able to perform weld overlay cladding of internal bores down to 25mm internal diameter. All of our welding staff are coded to ASME and European EN ISO standards. To this end we can offer welding that has a very low rate of distortion with very tight dimensions, good surface finishes and high tolerances. Our machining division specialises in high tolerance machining and finishing. There is good experience in reverse engineering parts which are no longer made and a stock of exotic alloy steels. As part of our welding system we employ a qualified International Welding Technician and our director is a Metallurgical Engineer. Advice is available for most welding and machining applications. Applied Welding Technology are specialists in repairing machined components by welding and we are experts in applying hard to weld layers such as Stellite. We also run a complete machine shop so that we can provide the full service from beginning of welding through heat treatment to end of machining. Our premises are completely serviced by overhead cranes ranging from 5 to 10 tons. All of our staff are certified in their specific fields of welding and machining.
